ABOUT SCOTT
Scott Preston was first elected to the Normal Council in 2013, becoming the youngest councilman in Normal, Illinois history. His commitment to economic growth, keeping taxes low, and promoting policies to ensure a high quality of life led to his re-election in 2017 and 2021.
Scott was fueled by the entrepreneurial spirit, leading him to start his own company, the Preston Property Group, which oversees a growing portfolio of properties. By building a small business from the ground up, he understands the importance of being financially responsible and the importance of innovation to succeed - topics missing in the discussions at our state capital these days.
As a lifelong Illinois resident and entrepreneur, he's tired of the politicians in Springfield letting families and businesses down. Scott decided to run for state representative to bridge the partisan divide by uniting communities throughout the 91st district toward a common goal: improving our state.
With his record as a councilman showing how a functioning government can solve real community issues and his background as a small business owner, Scott is best equipped to bring a pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to the problems facing Illinois businesses, workers, families, and taxpayers.
Since high school, Scott has been an active member of his community when he co-founded the Close to Our Hearts Benefit with classmates benefiting families within the school district. Since then, he successfully co-chaired a capital campaign for United Way of McLean County, where he still serves on the Board of Directors. Scott also served on the Community Advisory Board for the Multicultural Leadership Program. He continues his involvement with Illinois State University's (ISU) Alumni Association Board of Directors and serves on the Student Affairs Alumni Ambassador team. He was the recipient of ISU's Redbird Proud Award, honoring young alumni's integrity and compassion.
Scott is a graduate of ISU with a degree in political science. He and his wife Ali live in Normal and attend Eastview Christian Church in Normal.
ISSUES
Economy
Our state has unlimited potential, yet poor policy out of Springfield hinders efforts to increase economic growth and is the reason Illinois often lags neighboring states. Keeping taxes low, cutting burdensome regulations, and creating consistent COVID response policies is the best approach to promoting a healthy economy for businesses.
Education
Scott's mother was a special education public school teacher, so he understands teachers' critical role in the classroom. Investing in educational institutions is essential to building the next generation of Illinois leaders. To ensure our children receive a high-quality education, we must keep politics out of the classroom and parents in control of their child’s learning.
Back the Blue
Efforts to defund or lessen the powers of the law enforcement community are wrong and dangerous. Policies prioritizing violent offenders cause crime rates to soar. Scott acknowledges and appreciates the work of police officers and first responders, and they deserve our support in public policy. A safe Illinois is a strong Illinois.
